Four teams were in action during the second week of the fall season. Men’s soccer opened their season at home against Canisius with a 3-0 shutout. Field Hockey also dominated in its opener collecting five goals on its way to shutting out Old Dominion. Orange volleyball opened its season in Clemson’s Big Orange Bash going 1-2 for the weekend. The women’s soccer team spent its weekend on the road in Harrisonburg, Va., but went 0-2 in the JMU/Comfort Inn Harrisonburg Invitational.
Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad recorded a hat trick in SU’s season opener. After a scoreless first half, freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica scored her first of two goals. Within six minutes, the Orange took a 3-0 lead. Three minutes later, Conrad scored off a penalty corner. Conrad would again find the back of the net about three minutes later assisted by senior Shannon Taylor. Conrad’s third goal came with about 17 minutes to play off another penalty corner. Loncarica scored the fifth and final SU goal with eight minutes to play in the game.

Men’s soccer opened its home slate on Friday night with a 3-0 victory against Canisius. The win over the Golden Griffins was 400th program win. Fans were encouraged to “Stuff the Stadium” and stuff they did. About 1,257 fans filled the stands at the Soccer Stadium to watch the Friday night matchup. Junior forward Tom Perevegyencev recorded two of the evening’s goals, while junior midfield Hansen Woodruff accounted for the other. The Orange outshot the Griffins 22-5.

Orange volleyball opened its fall season on the road at Clemson’s Big Orange Bash. The Orange faced defending ACC Champ Clemson first. The Orange kept the three sets close but could not overcome the Tigers who closed out the match, 3-0. Saturday morning the Orange faced the Florida International Golden Panthers. SU again kept the match close throughout the three sets but could not hold off the Golden Panthers who won the match, 3-0. Saturday afternoon, the Orange met the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. The Orange dominated from the beginning and won the match 3-0. Freshman Noemie Lefebvre garnered all-tournament honors and senior Marissa Kanemura tallied a career-high 18 digs.

The women’s soccer team spent the weekend on the road at the JMU/Comfort Inn Harrisonburg Invitational. Freshman Taylor Chamberlain scored her first collegiate goal in the 2-1 setback against William & Mary. Sophomore Megan Bellingham scored her second goal of the season against James Madison. Bellingham and goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hatton were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
