SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 18th-ranked Syracuse makes its first appearance at home tonight as SU plays host to in-state foe Colgate at 6:30 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Syracuse’s most familiar foe, the Orange leads the all-time series 22-10 and has won the last five contests. SU has outscored the Raiders 27-7 during that span. The Orange is 13-3 all-time at home versus Colgate. Syracuse is 24-12 in home openers. Head coach Ange Bradley is 1-0 in home openers.
No. 18 Syracuse opened the season with a 5-0 victory against No. 8 Old Dominion on Sunday. The win marked the second consecutive year the Orange have opened the season with a win (Syracuse defeated Colgate 6-4 last year). Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after recording a hat trick in her Orange debut. It was the first hat trick by a SU player since Alison Babbitt accomplished the feat in a 5-3 victory versus Georgetown on Oct. 1, 2006. Freshman back Anne-Sophie Van der Post was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring Syracuse’s defense that allowed only two shots (one on goal) in the win.
Colgate sophomore Rebecca Anderson scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the Raider field hockey team to a 5-1 season-opening win against Siena on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Tyler’s Field. Cathy Foto, the 2004 and 1996 Patriot League Coach of the Year, is in her 20th season as the head field hockey coach at Colgate. Six starters and 13 letterwinners return after going 12-10 overall and 8-10 in the Patriot League last season. Senior Lauren Carey is back after leading the Raiders in points (24), goals (11) and shots (53). Senior Maddie Watrobski also returns after recording a team-best 10 assists. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Pedersen is back after starting all 17 games in 2007. She registered a 2.37 goals-against-average.
