SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Jake Flaherty (Wakefield, R.I.) is the Syracuse University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22, 2008.
The Orange football team earned its first victory on Saturday, Sept. 20 against Northeastern University on Homecoming Weekend by a score of 30-21. Flaherty started his 16th consecutive contest at middle linebacker, making four tackles against the Huskies.
The 2007 ESPN the Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection anchors the Syracuse defense with a team-best 27 tackles. Flaherty is averaging 6.8 tackles per game, ranking him 10th in the BIG EAST Conference.
Flaherty has played in every game for the Orange since his arrival in 2005, totaling 131 career tackles, seven for loss, and one sack. The senior from Rhode Island is majoring in American studies.
Syracuse gears up for conference play when the University of Pittsburgh comes to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Sept. 27th for a noon kickoff.
All 2008 tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX). Individual game tickets for Pittsburgh, Louisville and Connecticut are $36 for adults and $18 for youth (ages 12 and under).
