PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse field hockey standouts senior midfielder Shannon Taylor and freshman back Anne-Sophie Van der Post were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in No. 2 Syracuse’s wins at Providence and Massachusetts. Taylor and Van der Post bring Syracuse’s BIG EAST Honor Roll honoree total to six. Van der Post has earned the accolade in two consecutive weeks, with freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica (September 15), senior goalkeeper Heather Hess (September 9) and freshman forward Lindsey Conrad (September 1) rounding out the list.
Taylor continued to be the center of Syracuse’s attack as the Orange moved to 10-0 with another 2-0 week. Taylor registered seven points off two goals and three assists in the two contests. The senior recorded one goal and one assists in SU’s 4-2 win at BIG EAST foe Providence Friday. Taylor was credited with an assist on Syracuse’s first goal of the afternoon, a penalty corner option. She then notched her 11th goals of the season on a direct shot during another Orange penalty corner. Taylor tallied one goal and two assists in SU’s 5-4 victory at Massachusetts. She provided an assist on SU’s second and fourth goals of the day. The senior also recorded her team-best 12th goal of the season on another direct shot during an Orange corner. Taylor’s team-high 33 points rank tied for seventh on SU’s single-season chart.
Van der Post again spearheaded the defensive effort that pushed Syracuse to 10-0. The Orange only allowed twenty shots and 11 penalty corners in the two contests. The senior was also a help on the offensive end of the field, recording three points off a goal and an assist. She connected on her third goal of the season off an option on a penalty corner for SU’s first goal in its 4-2 win at BIG EAST rival Providence. Van der Post also provided the assist on Syracuse first goal in its 5-4 victory at Massachusetts
The Orange remains on the road for one more game as it travels No. 18 Albany on Wednesday, October 1 at 4 p.m.
