Syracuse Rallies for 3-2 Victory in Home Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team will host the Binghamton Bearcats Tuesday in its home opener at Manley Field House. Action begins at 7 p.m. Orange All Access, suathletics.com multimedia package, will be on hand to provide live video coverage of the match.

“We have played against some strong teams so far this season and we are excited for our first home game of the season,” head coach Jing Pu said. “We are continuously preparing for BIG EAST competition which begins in three weeks. We have several freshmen players who have stepped into the starting lineup this year. They have delivered some solid performances and have the potential to enhance the team’s competitiveness in all positions. I look forward to seeing the team passing at a consistent level, improving its defense and continuing its strong hitting in all front positions.

Scouting the Bearcats (September 9, 7 p.m.)

The Bearcats are 3-3 so far this season. Heading into Tuesday night’s match with the Orange, Binghamton is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Pitt Classic. Ohio and Pitt both won their matches 3-0 but the Bearcats came back for 3-0 victory against Eastern Kentucky.

Prior to the Pitt Classic, the Bearcats traveled to Northern Arizona for the NAU Invitational. Binghamton posted 3-0 wins versus Rutgers and Akron before suffering a 3-0 setback to NAU.

Offensively, the Bearcats are led by senior Jaclyn Strader and sophomore Anna Lejina who have 51 digs and 57 kills, respectively. Defensively, senior Ashley Allen leads the Bearcats with 15 total blocks.

Up Next

Following its match against Binghamton, the Orange welcome Army, Siena, Ohio and Northeastern to Manley Field House for the Big Orange Tournament. Action begins Friday at 4:30 p.m. between Ohio and Siena. Syracuse’s first match will follow at 7 p.m. with the Orange taking on Northeastern.
