The Orange football team will face Louisville at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 12:00 p.m., (BIG EAST Network). The radio broadcast is available on the Syracuse ISP Sports Network, which is also available on SIRIUS/XM satellite radio. Syracuse leads the series, 5-3, and has won the past two meetings, including a 2007 victory against the then-18th ranked Cardinals.
Carter Earns BIG EAST Honor
Senior running back Delone Carter earned his third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for his performance at Pittsburgh. He broke off a career-long 58-yard run and finished with 143 yards for his fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and his second this season. He also earned the conference honor after his performances against Maine and Akron. Carter is ranked 23rd on Syracuse's all-time rushing yards record list with 1,573 and is 51st in the nation and fifth in the BIG EAST in rushing average (80.3).
Paulus is SU's Most Accurate Quarterback in History
Graduate student quarterback Greg Paulus has completed 144-of-221 passes (65.2 percent). Through nine games this season, which is the best single-season performance in school history. His 65.2 completion percentage ranks sixth in the BIG EAST single-season record list, while is 166.3 passing yards per game is fifth in the league.
Smith Leads Orange Defense
Senior linebacker Derrell Smith is averaging 8.7 tackles per game, which is fourth among BIG EAST defenders and ties for 47th in the nation. His 0.72 sacks per game is tied for 33rd nationally and ranks fifth in the conference. He is averaging 1.06 tackles for loss per game, which is seventh in the league and ties for 55th in the nation. His 0.44 forced fumbles per game leads the BIG EAST.
Pass Game Production
Syracuse's passing game is producing 196.11 yards per game, which ranks eighth on the school single-season record list. Orange quarterbacks Greg Paulus and Ryan Nassib have completed 61.9 percent (167-270) of their passes, which ranks third in school history. The offense is averaging 20.33 points per game this season, its highest since 2004 (24.0). The rush attack is averaging 113.44 ypg (178.8 in 2004), while the offense is producing 309.56 ypg (349.0 in 2004).
Reviewing the Last Two Meetings
In 2007, quarterback Andrew Robinson threw for 423 years, which is the second-best in school history, and four touchdown passes, which ties a school record. In 2008, running back Curtis Brinkley broke the SU single-season record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games with his fifth, while tight end Tony Fiammetta caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Cameron Dantley to give SU the 28-21 victory.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville is 3-6 after losing to West Virginia, 17-9, last Saturday. Junior quarterback Adam Froman leads the team in passing (62-of-97 for 751 yards and three touchdowns) this season. Senior Scott Long is his favored receiver and has 550 yards on 38 receptions this season. Sophomore Vic Anderson leads the running backs corps with 86 carries for 480 yards.
