
Freeney Named Pro Bowl Starter

Former Orange standout Dwight Freeney earned the starting nod for the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl, marking his second consecutive selection to the post-season all-star game. Freeney, who will play in his fifth Pro Bowl in eight NFL seasons, after making the game from 2003-05 and in 2009.
Freeney has 13.5 sacks, 20 pressures and a pass defensed and a forced fumble this season. He also had a sack in each of the season's first eight games. Dating to last season, he had a sack in nine consecutive games, one shy of the NFL record. Freeney's 13.5 sacks this season rank as the second-highest total in franchise history. He had a franchise-record 16 sacks in 2004 and 13 as a rookie in 2002.
At Syracuse, Freeney set the NCAA career record for sacks per game (1.61 per game) and the Syracuse single-game and single-season sacks records. In addition, Freeney holds the Syracuse standard for the most fumbles forced and the most fumbles forced and recovered. His eight forced fumbles in 2001 ranks second on the NCAA Division I record list.
