
Schayes A Finalist For CoSIDA Academic Hall

Former Syracuse basketball standout Danny Schayes has been named a finalist for the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Balloting for induction will be conducted later in the spring.
Schayes saw court time in 117 games during his SU tenure on the hardwood. He accumulated 965 points and 635 rebounds during his time. Schayes enjoyed his finest campaign as a senior in 1980-81. He averaged 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds. He also converted 166-of-202 free throws, an .822 rate.
He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Syracuse. He earned CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America recognition in 1981 and was an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship winner that same year.
A first-round choice by the Utah Jazz in the 1981 NBA Draft, Schayes was the 13th overall player selected. He played 18 seasons and close to 1,200 games in an NBA career that included stops with Utah, Denver, Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Miami and Orlando. He retired in 1999.
Schayes worked as a broadcaster for ESPN, TNT and the Seattle Supersonics. He currently runs his own company, No Limits Investing, which specializes in creating safe, tax-advantaged income vehicles.
He and his wife, Wendy, have a son Logan.
