SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team (7-0) continues to destroy any foe that dares to challenge SU's undefeated record as the Orange dismantled Massachusetts, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center.
Junior Ashley Spicer grinded out her seventh straight singles victory to remain the lone undefeated Orange in singles play this season. Spicer outworked Tanisha Hodgson, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 5 position on the court.
Freshman Emily Harman defeated Candynce Boney 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles spot to bounce back after her first solo setback against Buffalo last week.
Harman also joined forces with sophomore, Christina Tan, at the No. 1 doubles position. The two outlasted Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse 8-4 for their sixth triumph at the No. 1 doubles post this season.
Tan was victorious with a 6-1, 6-1 thrashing in Magdalena Ploch in the No. 2 slot.
Junior Chelsea Jones and Spicer logged a convincing win against Laura Danai and Hodgson, 8-1, to move to 6-1 in doubles action this season.
The tandem of freshman Alessondra Parra and sophomore Simone Kalhorn chalked up their fourth doubles win of the season in a tightly-contested 7-6 (5) victory against Kaitlyn Carpenter and Ploch.
Kalhorn went onto claim her sixth solo win of the season against Lecluyse, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 slot while Parra was dealt her first loss of the season to Carpenter, 4-6, 6-2 (10-7). She is now 6-1 on the season.
Jones rounded out singles combat with a 7-4, 7-5 thumping of Laura Danai at the No. 6 position.
The Orange is back in action against Iowa State on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Drumlins Tennis Center. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
