BALTIMORE – Syracuse was the most honored team in the nation when Inside Lacrosse released its midseason All-America teams earlier this week. Senior attackman Kenny Nims, senior midfielder Dan Hardy and senior close defenseman Sid Smith were named to the first team at the their respective positions. Senior midfielder Matt Abbott was a second-team choice.
The Orange's four honorees were the most of any school, and one more than Virginia, which was second with three selections.
Nims leads the Orange and ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring (31 points) and assists (16). He has at least one point in each of the last 23 games and scored a personal-best eight points (3g, 5a) against Providence in the 2009 season opener.
Hardy is Syracuse's highest-scoring midfielder with 19 points (9g, 10). He has at least one goal in every game this season and scored his 100th career point against Virginia on Feb. 27.
Smith anchors an Orange defense that boasts a 6.89 goals-against average. He and his defensive teammates have combined to hold three of the SU's last four opponents to five goals or less. Smith has 11 ground balls and often marks the opposing team's top attackman.
Abbott is one of the best all-around players in the game. Offensively, he has six goals and five assists on the year. Defensively, he leads the team with 26 ground balls and is the team's active career ground ball leader with 161.
The Orange is 6-1 overall and returns to action on Saturday, March 28 when it visits No. 15 Loyola for a 12 p.m. contest at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPNU and locally in Baltimore on WMAR-TV.
