
Flynn Signs With Agent; NBA Draft Awaits

SYRACUSE, NY -- Sophomore guard Jonny Flynn has signed with an agent and will enter the NBA draft this spring, according to men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim.
“Jonny Flynn has signed with an agent and will enter the NBA Draft," said Boeheim. "He had a tremendous two years at Syracuse. Jonny helped to elevate our program as much as any player we have ever had.
"We wish him the best of luck as he pursues a career in professional basketball. I expect Jonny will be an outstanding pro player.”
Flynn earned Associated Press All-American honors after helping the Orange to a 28-10 overall record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament's "Sweet 16." Syracuse also finished second in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament and Flynn received the Dave Gavitt Award as the event's most outstanding player.
He led the team in scoring (17.4), assists (6.7), steals (1.4) and minutes played (37.3) averages. Flynn set a school record with 1,418 minutes played. He saw court time in all 38 contests, tying another school standard.
He joined the school's 1,000 career-point club this season and finished his career rnaked 38th overall (1,211 points). Flynn scored in double digits 36 times, the third-best total at SU behind only John Wallace (38, 1995-96) and Sherman Douglas (37, 1986-87).
Flynn accumulated 439 assists in his career, good for seventh on Syracuse's all-time list. His 254 assists this past season ranked second among SU sophomores and was the fifth-highest single-season total at Syracuse.
He made the midseason top-30 candidate list for the 2008-09 John Wooden Award and was one of 17 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award. He wsa named a third-team collegehoops.net All-American. Flynn was a second-team All-BIG EAST Conference selection.
The 2009 NBA Draft will be conducted in New York on June 25.
