A tour of the New Era worldwide headquarters and meeting Orange football fans highlighted the Orange Athletics Spring Tour visit to Buffalo today. Head coach Doug Marrone was scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the Buffalo Bisons game against Louisville, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
All Syracuse University fans are invited to meet Marrone as he travels from city to city during the next four weeks. The Spring Tour kicked off on Tuesday in Boston with an event at Fenway Park and continues through May with visits to baseball stadiums to throw out the first pitch, meet and greet sessions and special events.
Marrone is the keynote speaker at the Salvation Army's 125th Anniversary Luncheon on Monday, May 4th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, beginning at Noon. For tickets, call the Salvation Army (585) 987-9500.
The tour will continue in Elmira on Tuesday, May 5th at the Elmira Rotary luncheon at the Holiday Inn River View at 12:00 p.m. for Rotary members and guests. In the afternoon the tour will stop at the Ernie Davis Community Center, formerly known as the Neighborhood House where Davis played grade-school basketball and pickup games, and Ernie Davis Middle School, which was Davis' high school, Elmira Free Academy. It was renamed for Davis when a new high school was built. A statue of Davis resides at the school. As part of “Orange Day” at the Binghamton Mets game against Portland that night, Marrone will greet fans in the stadium prior to throwing out the first pitch at 6:35 p.m. All fans who purchase a cap will receive two tickets to the 2009 Syracuse season-opener against Minnesota on Sept. 5.
On Thursday, May 7 Marrone will visit with fans at The Rink/The Field Community Recreation Center in Ithaca from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
