
Orange Adds Three to Football Roster

The Orange football roster will be bolstered by the addition of three new members in the 2009 incoming class, including linebacker Derek Hines, defensive back John Mark Henderson and kicker Shane Raupers. Head coach Doug Marrone will welcome this group, along with 14 members of the class who signed National Letters of Intent with the Orange in February and quarterback Greg Paulus, who graduated from Duke and has one year of athletic eligibility remaining.
“We are excited with the addition of these student-athletes to our program. They will all come into the program and compete for a starting spot,” Marrone said. “Derek, John Mark and Shane will be solid additions to our roster.”
Hines is joining the Orange from Santa Ana College (Calif.) where he played safety. In 2008, Hines posted 61 total tackles, including 29 solo and two for a loss of six yards, and had two interceptions which he returned for 63 yards, forced two fumbles and broke up two passes, for head coach Geoff Jones. In his first season at Santa Ana, Hines recorded 30 tackles, including 18 solo and one for a loss of two yards, and had one interception.
The Orange, Calif. native played running back and defensive back for Villa Park High School. Under the guidance of head coach Pat Mahoney, Hines was a three-time first-team all-league selection and was named the Century League Offensive Most Valuable Player award after gaining 1,109 yards on 135 carries and scored 15 touchdowns. As a junior, he scored had 165 carries for 1,095 yards and 16 touchdowns for an 11-2 Villa Park team.
Henderson played for two seasons at City College of San Francisco for head coach George Rush, where his team won the 2007 National Championship. Mark Henderson had 11 tackles, including eight solo, in 2007. As a sophomore, he had 29 tackles, including 19 solo and three for a loss of 15 yards and one sack, and had one interception. He also ran back a 16-yard punt for his first touchdown with the Rams.
At South San Francisco HS, Mark Henderson led the team with 237 yards on 27 carries and scored one touchdown as a senior.
Raupers was a four-year starter at quarterback, placekicker and punter for head coach Jack Young at Athens High School. He was also a three-year starter at defensive back and handled the punt and kick return duties at Athens. The two-time Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA All-State Second Team selection will play in the Pennsylvania East-West All-Star Game in June. Raupers earned two Star-Gazette All-Twin Tiers Offensive Player of the Year honors and was the league co-player of the year as a quarterback. As a kicker, he earned AP All-State honors twice and was a Penn Football News First-Team selection. He earned District 4 First Team honors as a quarterback, kicker, punter and defensive back.
As a senior, Raupers connected on 24-of-25 PATs (96.0 %) and 4-of-5 field goals (80.0 %) and averaged 34.4 yards per punt, including a long of 61 yards. At quarterback, Raupers passed for 1,200 yards, rushed for 400 and scored 25 touchdowns. As a junior, he converted 34-of-38 (89.5 %) PATs and 9-of-12 field goals (75.0 %), including a career-long of 47 yards, and averaged 36.2 yards per punt.
Raupers was a three-year starter for the varsity baseball team. As a switch-hitting shortstop, he led the league in hitting and was named player of the year twice. Raupers also set the school record for the javelin (194 feet) and was a member of the wrestling team.
