Today the Central New Jersey Syracuse University Alumni Club will celebrate Orange football at The Nassau Inn in Princeton, N.J. The event, "Celebrating 50 Years of SU Football: From Ernie Davis to Coach Doug Marrone" begins at 11:30 a.m. and will feature Robert C. Gallagher (SU '71), who wrote the 1983 biography, "Ernie Davis: The Elmira Express." The book details the life of the famed Syracuse running back who became the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy, earning the nation's top football honor in 1961. The book was adapted into the 2008 motion picture, 'The Express,' starring Dennis Quaid and Rob Brown.
The panel of six Syracuse football standouts from the past 50 years includes Tom Gilburg '61, Cliff Ensley '69, Hon. Thomas S. Smith '70, Richard Rosen '78, Deval Glover '89, and Jason A. Poles '99. Voice of the Orange Matt Park '97 will serve as emcee.
