Championship Banner To Be Unveiled At Northwestern Football Game

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The latest NCAA Championship banner for the Orange men's lacrosse team will be raised to the Carrier Dome rafters on Saturday, Sept. 19. The banner unveiling will take place at halftime of the Northwestern football game and is one several events the lacrosse program and Orange Club have scheduled for its alumni weekend to celebrate the team's latest national championship.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with a golf tournament at Turning Stone's Shenendoah Golf Club. The tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Following the golf tournament, the team and alumni will adjourn to Turning Stone's Oneida Room for a banquet to celebrate the 2009 championship season. The banquet begins with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

In addition, members of the national championship team will be on the Quad prior to the start of the Northwestern game to sign autographs as part of the pre-game festivities.

Kickoff for Syracuse versus Northwestern is at 7 p.m. and tickets are still available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX), including a limited number of $15 tickets. In addition to recognizing the lacrosse team, former Orange head coach Dick MacPherson will be honored at the game as part of Legends Day.

The SU lacrosse team steamrolled its way to a second straight NCAA title and a 16-2 overall record last season. Syracuse capped the year with a dramatic 10-9 come-from-behind win in overtime against Cornell at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. It was the program's NCAA-record 11th National Championship.
