SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse makes its first appearance of the season at the SU Soccer Stadium when it hosts Providence on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Orange began the season with nine consecutive away games, the longest stretch of away games in school history. Syracuse enters Thursday's game with a 3-4-2 overall record and a 0-1 mark in BIG EAST play, while Providence is 5-3-1 overall, 0-1 in conference action.
The Orange has won its last two home openers and is 9-2-2 all-time in its season debut at the SU Soccer Stadium. Last season Syracuse posted five wins on its home field, its most home victories since the 2004 campaign.
Admission to the game is free of charge.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Providence have met every year since the Orange's inaugural season in 1996. SU leads the all-time series, 8-4-1.
ORANGE STREAK SNAPPED
Syracuse had its string of consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal snapped at St. John's. The Orange, which had shut out four straight opponents, extended its streak to 390:37 before the Red Storm scored its first goal of the game.
