
Three Champs Emerge from Army Invite

West Point, N.Y. – Three members of the Syracuse tennis team left West Point Sunday as champions. Freshman CC Sardinha, junior Simone Kalhorn and junior Emily Harman all clinched the championship in their respective singles flights during the Eastern Championship tournament.
All three girls entered the tournament as the number one seed in their flight and proceeded to storm through the tournament bracket and ultimately winning in the final round held Sunday afternoon.
Sardinha outmatched her opponent, Julia Korshunova of Farleigh Dickinson, 6-2 and 6-4 in the final round to win the match. Kalhorn outlasted Dusquesne's Samantha Noble 6-0 and 6-2 in the final match to claim victory while Harman battled Jessica Ahn of Army in three games with results of 6-4, 4-6 and 10-3 to be crowned champion as well.
Other members of the Orange squad who were eliminated in earlier rounds of the tournament faired better in consolation play. The duo of sophomores Allison Haynes and Alessondra Parra defeated their Long Island counterpart in the Lichtenberg doubles final with a final result of 8-4. In consolation singles action, junior Christina Tang defeated Pitt's Elizabeth Adams 8-0 to win her final matchup.
The three-day tournament was held at the United States Military Academy at West Point and featured the play of 31 different schools from all along the East coast.
The Orange hit the courts again October 10th-12th for the Billie Jean King Invitational in New York City to continue their fall schedule.
