SYRACUSE, NY – Part two of the home-and-home men's basketball series between Syracuse and Memphis is scheduled for January 6, 2010 in the Carrier Dome. The two teams squared off in Memphis last December.
Syracuse has a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with Memphis. The two teams first met in the 2002 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Memphis emerged with a 70-63 victory in what was Carmelo Anthony's debut with the Orange. Syracuse claimed the two most recent encounters, a 77-62 triumph in the 2004 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Championship and a 72-65 win at Memphis a year ago.
The Tigers were 33-4 overall and 16-0 in Conference USA a season ago and reached the NCAA Tournament's “Sweet 16” before losing to Missouri, 102-91. Memphis features first-year head coach Josh Pastner, who took over when John Calipari was hired by Kentucky. Pastner was an assistant on Calipari's Memphis staff last season.
