SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse is back on the road this weekend for a pair of contests against New York State foes. The Orange plays at Fordham on Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Binghamton to take on the Bearcats on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In its last time out, Syracuse came back from a two-goal deficit to record a 2-2 tie against Drake at the Colorado College/Fairfield Inn Invitational. Freshman Tina Romagnuolo scored twice in the final three minutes, including a goal with 38 seconds remaining in regulation, to force overtime. Romagnuolo leads the Orange in scoring this season with three goals.
THE SERIES
Syracuse faced Fordham for the first time last season in a contest at the SU Soccer Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hattan had two saves for the Orange in a 0-0 tie. Syracuse and Binghamton have met six times. SU has won the last two meetings and leads the all-time series, 4-1-1.
ROMAGNUOLO PROVIDES OFFENSIVE PUNCH
Freshman Tina Romagnuolo recorded her first multiple-goal game of her career in Syracuse's 2-2 tie against Drake. Romagnuolo is the first freshman to score two goals in a game since the 2000 season when Nina Scalzo accomplished the feat twice.
NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
This weekend is Syracuse's second and third contests against teams from New York State. Earlier this season the Orange had a 2-1 setback at St. Bonaventure in double overtime. Last season, Syracuse posted a record of 3-1-2 against its fellow Empire State foes.
