SYRACUSE – The sixth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team resumes its six-game on Sat., Oct. 3, when it hosts No. 9 Massachusetts in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament First Round Game on at 1 p.m. The Orange then hosts No. 20 Albany on Sun., Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. (note the time change for Sunday's game).
Syracuse and Massachusetts will meet for the 20th time with SU boasting a 13-5-1 advantage. The Orange has won the last 11 contests dating back to 1999 and has outscored UMass 25-9 in those games. Syracuse is 7-1 all-time against the Minutewomen in the Salt City. SU defeated UMass twice last season, including a 3-2 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley is very familiar with the Minutewomen, having compiled a 11-3 all-time record against UMass. Her two losses came in 2001 during her first season at Richmond. While at Richmond, Bradley recorded a 42-0 record in the Atlantic 10, won five consecutive conference tournament championships and earned five NCAA Tournament invitations. Since Bradley's departure from Richmond in 2007, Massachusetts has won the last two Atlantic 10 championships.
Syracuse pushed its win streak to six and improved to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play after defeating No. 19 Providence 2-1 on Sept. 26 and shutting out Columbia 6-0 on Sept. 27.
Junior forward Lindsey Conrad has recorded a team-best 19 points off a team-high eight goals and three assists. Freshman back Amy Kee and sophomore midfielder Martina Loncarica have each dished out a team-best six assists. Freshman goalkeeper Leann Stiver has a goal-against-average of 1.17 and a saves percentage of .806 in the cage for the Orange.
