No. 5 Orange Top Colgate on Senior Night

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Five different players found the back of the net for No. 5 Syracuse University field hockey as the Orange surged past Colgate 5-1 Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Syracuse (9-2) picked up goals from five different players as senior night honorees Danique Schuurman (1g, 1a) and Pati Strunk (3a) picked up three points apiece. Freshman Sammie Goin added a goal and an assist as well. Bo van Kempen, Ally Snyder, and Karsin Beatty all found the back of the net. Tane King made her first career start, making one save. Jessie Eiselin stopped one shot as she played in the second half.
Following the game, the Orange honored eight seniors and graduate students: Lieke Leeggangers, Aiden Drabick, Lotti Knights, Liz Stange, Bo van Kempen, Pati Strunk, Danique Schuurman, and Lana Hamilton.
Colgate (3-7) got its goal from Minah Cho late in the third quarter. Claire van Kempen went the distance for the Raiders, making 14 saves along the way. Annie Lake added an assist to her evening.

How it Happened
- Neither team scored in the first quarter, despite the Orange out-shooting Colgate 7-1 in the first 10 minutes.
- The Orange offense wore the Raiders down in the second quarter as the vaunted attacking penalty corner unit delivered the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute. Strunk inserted to Sammie Goin, who trapped for Schuurman's sweep for a 1-0 lead.
- Four minutes later, Goin got her first career goal in the 25th minute. Strunk picked up her second assist of the night, delivering a long pass ahead to Goin for the deke and score. Syracuse took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
- Bo van Kempen struck quickly in the 35th minute on another corner effort with Strunk getting her third assist of the night on an insert with Hamilton trapping for the Bo van Kempen rip.
- Snyder got the fourth goal of her young career on a rebounded play in front of the Raiders' van Kempen in the 41st minute.
- In the waning moments of the third quarter, Colgate got its goal on Cho's back-post tap in on a swing by Lake, ending the third quarter with the Orange on top 4-1.
- Beatty tacked on the final goal of the night with 38 seconds to play, getting a tip-in score on a Schuurman corner drive.
- Syracuse has a bye weekend from ACC play and no game this Sunday.
- The Orange hit the road for a pair of California contests, leading off on Friday, October 10 with an 8 p.m. ET start at Stanford. Syracuse rounds out the West Coast swing with an October 12 game at California with a 4 p.m. ET first push in Berkeley.
