SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse University men's basketball assistant coach Rob Murphy has employed some of his off-the-court talents to help support the Jim Boeheim Foundation this year. Murphy has recorded songs in recognition of the 2009-10 SU season and to commemorate Coach Jim Boeheim's 800th career victory early in the year. Some of the proceeds from the sale of the songs, as well as t-shirts that incorporate the “Shut It Down” theme, go to the Boeheim Foundation.
“We are thrilled that Rob is partnering with the Jim Boeheim Foundation,” said Juli Boeheim. “His involvement makes it sort of a family affair. The songs and the t-shirts are a great way to celebrate the Orange men's basketball team's great start this year and the Jim Boeheim Foundation as well.”
The first song, “Shut It Down,” is the team's theme song this season. Freestyle-rapped by Murphy, the song is played prior to SU player introductions at the Carrier Dome.
“Shut It Down is our team motto this year,” said Murphy. “It represents the primary defensive concept the team has adopted.”
After first producing the original song, Murphy put together a “Shut It Down” Remix CD which includes four songs. Following Boeheim's milestone victory, Murphy recorded “800 Club-Mr. Boeheim,” in recognition.
The songs can be previewed on two websites: www.suathletics.com and www.jimboeheim.com
The “Shut It Down” basketball t-shirts can be purchased on-line at www.suathletics.com/teamshop or at Manny's on Marshall Street in Syracuse.
