
Nine Earn Mid-Season Honors

Nine Syracuse football student-athletes have earned recognition on the Phil Steele 2010 Midseason All-BIG EAST Team, including seniors Mike Holmes, Derrell Smith, Doug Hogue, Rob Long, Delone Carter and Ryan Bartholomew, juniors Van Chew and Chandler Jones and freshman Ross Krautman.
Holmes was named to both the first team offense, as a punt returner, and defense as a cornerback. Holmes ranks sixth on SU's career record list for tackles by a defensive back (238) and is 11th nationally and leads the BIG EAST with a 15.5 yards per punt return average. Smith also made the first-team defense. SU's leading tackler, Smith ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 8.4 tackles per game and 17th nationally with 5.67 solo tackles per contest.
Chew was among three wide receivers on the second team offense. He is averaging 75.3 receiving yards per game, which ranks third in the BIG EAST. Hogue represents the Orange on the second team defense. He is SU's third-leading tackler (39) and ranks 15th on SU's career tackles for loss record list with 19.0. Krautman and Long compromised the magazine's second-team kicking squad. Krautman is ranked fourth among BIG EAST kickers with 1.2 field goals per game, while Long ranks 29th nationally and second in the BIG EAST with a 43.3 yards per punt average.
Carter and Bartholomew garnered third team offensive honors, while Jones is a third-team defensive selection. Carter ranks ninth on SU's career rushing yards record list with 2,433 yards and is averaging 93.7 yards per game, while Bartholomew anchors the Orange offensive line which is tied for 11th nationally allowing just 4.17 tackles for loss per game. A defensive end, Jones made the third team. He is tied for 31st nationally and first in the BIG EAST with 0.33 forced fumbles per game.
Syracuse plays at West Virginia this Saturday (Oct. 23, 12:00 p.m., ESPN2) before travelling to play Cincinnati on October 30 (12:00 p.m., ESPNU). The Orange returns to the Carrier Dome to host Louisville on November 6 (12:00 p.m., BIG EAST Network).
