CHICAGO - Syracuse (21-5, 3-5) suffered a heartbreaking five-set loss to DePaul (4-20, 1-8) on Sunday afternoon in the McGrath Arena. Senior outside hitter Hayley Todd matched her career-best with 21 kills while senior defensive specialist Sarah Hayes set a career-standard with 20 digs.
Todd was one of eight Orange student-athletes with at least one kill, including four in double-digits. The Whitby, Ontario native logged her third career double-double, adding 17 digs to the defensive effort. Juniour outside Noemie Lefebvre was second on the team with 15 kills and 17 digs for her 45th double-double of the season. Rookie middle Lindsay McCabe added 13 kills while leading the team with four total blocks and senior right side Mindy Stanislovaitis notched 12 kills. Freshman Samantha Clarey logged six kills while sophomore Samantha Hinz added four and a trio of blocks. Sophomore Laura Homann directed the attack with 62 assists.
Defensively, Hayes led the backrow with a career effort while junior Ashley Williams added 13 digs and sophomore Zoe Guzman had three.
DePaul took the first set, 25-21, before the Orange rallied to claim the next two, 25-21, 25-17. The BlueDemons came back with a 25-22 fourth-set win and squeaked by with a 16-14 win in the deciding set to take the match, 3-2.
The Orange looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts Pittsburgh and West Virginia in a weekend homestand beginning Friday, October 29 at 2 p.m. in the Women's Building. Admission and parking is free.
