
Three Gridders Earn Academic Honors

Syracuse football student-athletes Ryan Nassib, Adam Harris and Derrell Smith, are 2010 ESPN Academic All-District Team selections. The trio joins four other Syracuse University student-athletes to earn the honor this fall and all three will now appear on the ballot to earn national honors. Nassib, Harris, Smith and the rv/rv Orange football squad host Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 6 in the Carrier Dome (12:00 p.m., BIG EAST Network. Tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX).
Nassib, who has thrown at least one touchdown pass in all eight games this season, is a finance major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. His 14 touchdown passes ties for eighth on the SU single-season record list. He owns a 14 to 5 touchdown to interception ratio and set a SU record with five touchdown passes against Maine earlier this season. Nassib is a four-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll honoree and a 2009 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Harris, who has played in eight games this season, is majoring in marketing management in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. This season he has seven carries for 21 yards and two receptions for 13 yards and he has also played on special teams. Harris moved to fullback from linebacker during 2010 Spring practice after joining the team as a transfer from Cornell in 2009. He is a two-time Athletic Director's honor roll selection and 2009 BIG EAST All-Academic Team member.
Smith, who ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 7.9 tackles per game and is tied for 37th nationally with 5.45 solo stops per game, is working toward his Master's degree in advertising in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He earned a dual undergraduate degree in information management and technology and marketing in May 2010. His seven career forced fumbles ranks third on the SU record list and he is tied for 54th nationally and sixth in the BIG EAST with 0.25 forced fumbles per game. A three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, Smith is a candidate for the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award, Dick Butkus Award, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and a William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist.

The three-game, “Third-Down Package,” allows fans to buy one ticket each for any three games for $75 ($45 for Youth 12 and under), a savings of between $5 and $15. The tickets are located in the upper-level corners of the Carrier Dome.
