SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Rachael Ogundiran of the Orange women's rowing team and senior Kuba Kotynia, are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 13 2010.
Ogundiran has rowed in the first varsity eight and second varsity four boats throughout the fall season. She helped the first varsity eight to a fourth-place finish at the Head of the Genesee race, while the second varsity four boat earned sixth at the Syracuse Invitational. She has received BIG EAST All-Academic honors following each season at Syracuse.
Ogundiran, a bioengineering major, and the Orange will begin its spring season when it competes for the Kittle Cup at Boston University on March 26.
Kotynia, a member of the SU swim team, recently represented the Orange at the AT&T Short Course National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. His time of 1:58.24 in the 200-yard backstroke ranks as the sixth-fastest time in the nation. He qualified for NCAA competition in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second-consecutive season at the Nike Cup competition earlier this season. Kotynia was named an ESPN/COSIDA Academic All-American following the 2009-10 season.
Kotynia, a dual major in computer science and mathematics, and the Orange will spend the semester break training in San Juan, Puerto Rico. SU will host its only meet of the season when it welcomes Villanova and Providence on Feb. 4 and 5 to Archbold Gymnasium.
