SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eight different players contributed to the scoring column, including four in double-figures, as 5/5 Syracuse (13-0) remained unbeaten with a 93-65 win against Drexel (8-2) on Wednesday at the Carrier Dome. It marks the eighth time that SU has been 13-0 during head coach Jim Boeheim's tenure.
Junior Kris Joseph posted a career high 25 point effort and grabbed seven rebounds to lead SU. Fellow junior Scoop Jardine followed closely behind with 21 points and dished out five assists. Jardine converted on nine of ten shot attempts, while Joseph went 9-12.
Senior Rick Jackson registered his ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds and added a season high five blocks. Sophomore guard Brandon Triche rounded out SU's players in double-figures with 12 points.
Syracuse shot a season-best 35-55 (.636) from the floor, despite starting the game 1-6. Syracuse could not manage a field goal until the 14:14 mark, but SU went 6-6 from the free throw line to keep it a close game.
Syracuse went on a 7-0 run to take a 15-10 lead with 10:34 to play in the first half. With 3:22 remaining, SU continued to increase its lead, 29-18, compliments of a Scoop Jardine fast break layup. Jardine ended the half with a long range three-pointer and a free throw to give SU the 35-22 advantage at the half.
The Orange shot 18-20 to start the second half and put the game out of reach for the Dragons. Joseph netted 21 of his game high 25 points in the second half, while Jardine added 11.
Drexel's shot started to fall in the second half and the Dragons nearly doubled its point production from the first half with 43 points. Syracuse would not allow a comeback and converted on 23-32 (.719) shots in the second stanza to seal its 13th consecutive win.
The Orange produced more than half of its points in the paint with 54 and held Drexel to just 22 points around the rim. Sixteen points came on Syracuse's fast break, while the Orange's stingy defense did not allow a single point from the Dragons off a fast break. SU is continuing to put big numbers on the scoreboard, having scored 90 or more points in the last three games.
The Orange held the Dragons to 26-of-60 (.433) shooting from the floor. Drexel, led by head coach Bruiser Flint, was paced by senior guard Gerald Colds' 16 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
