SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Stefanie Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) of the Orange women's ice hockey and men's crew student-athlete, senior Dan Berry (East Lansdowne, Pa.), are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 6 2010.
Berry, a member of the men's crew team, has rowed in the bow of the second varsity four boat throughout the fall season. In the fall finale at the Foot of the Charles he led the Varsity Four “B” boat to an eighth-place finish with a 13:17.26 while the boat earned the bronze at the Syracuse Invitational with a 16:52.5.
Berry, a public health major, and the Orange open their spring schedule against Princeton and Georgetown in Princeton, N.J. on April 2, 2011.
Marty is one of seven SU skaters remaining from the original Orange roster when the program began in 2008. She has played in 110 games during her career as a key member of SU's attack. Marty helped Syracuse start 2-0 in College Hockey America (CHA) play with two wins against Wayne State last weekend. She scored SU's second goal in a 5-3 win in game two. The Orange's first Winter Olympian has tallied 33 goals and 33 assists throughout her career.
Marty, a dual major in economics and finance, and the Orange will travel to New Jersey for its last two game series of 2010 against Princeton. The puck will drop on Dec. 10 and 11 at 4 p.m.
