
Syracuse's Season Ends After Close Battle With No.3 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team's season ended after a close match with the No.3 Penn State Nittany Lions, falling 2-1 at Pegula Ice Arena on Saturday evening.
Syracuse (15-18-4) had a slow start to offense in the first period but generated good chances throughout the contest. Ava Drabyk held the Nittany Lions to only two goals, the lowest in six matches between the two teams.
Penn State (30-5-0) had Abby Stonehouse find the back of the net in response to a Syracuse equalizer that eventually became the game-winning goal for the Nittany Lions.
How it Happened
- Penn State's Tessa Janecke began the scoring 15 minutes into the first period with an assist from Katelyn Roberts.
- Syracuse's power play offense retaliated in the second period when at 5:48 Jackson Kinsler broke through the defense on an assist from Stella Costabile to tie the game.
- The Nittany Lions then tacked on the game-winner from Stonehouse at 18:49 in the second with assists from Grace Outwater and Danica Maynard.
- In the final minutes, the Orange had chances with 6 on 5 play but could not score an equalizer.
