The Orange football program will welcome back senior cornerback Da'Mon Merkerson but will not have senior safety Max Suter in the lineup for the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Merkerson will return after missing the game against Boston College due to a knee injury, which required surgery. Suter is sidelined due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. In addition, junior running back Averin Collier is no longer part of the program, head coach Doug Marrone announced today.
Merkerson reported left knee pain following the Connecticut game on November 20. An MRI revealed an injury to the left knee lateral meniscus. Dr. Irving Raphael performed surgery December 1. Merkerson is now in the rehabilitation phase and it is anticipated that he will participate in the New Era Pinstripe Bow.
Suter reported right shoulder pain following Syracuse's final regular season game against Boston College on November 27. An MRI revealed an injury to the shoulder joint that will require surgery. As a result of the surgery and rehabilitation process, he will not participate in the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl Game.
Syracuse will play Kansas State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on December 30. Tickets are available online.
