SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Uhunoma Osazuwa (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Rick Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of February 22, 2010.
Osazuwa is a jumps and multi-events specialist on the track and field team. She won the BIG EAST Indoor Championship in the long jump with a 6.07 over the weekend while also earning All-BIG EAST honors in the pentathlon (3,942). Osazuwa's 3,942 point total in the pentathlon was an NCAA qualifying mark.
Osazuwa is a biochemistry major in the College of Arts & Sciences. She and the Orange are slated to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships beginning Saturday, March 6 in Boston, Mass.
Jackson is a forward on the men's basketball team. He has started all 27 games for the Orange this season, averaging 9.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and ranks second on the team with a .597 field goal percentage. Jackson ranks third in the BIG EAST in overall field goal percentage and is second in the league in blocks per game.
Jackson is a sociology major in the College of Arts & Sciences. The men's basketball team visits Providence on Tuesday, February 23 before hosting Villanova as part of ESPN's National College GameDay on Saturday, February 27 at 9 p.m.
