Syracuse was one of 20 Division I programs ranked among college basketball's most valuable teams according to Forbes Magazine. The Orange ranks eighth on the prestigious list and is one of only four teams to increase its value in the past four years.
Forbes list was created based on the following four main categories listed in order of weight. (1) the value of contributions to the institution for academic purposes, including scholarships for basketball players; (2) the net profit generated by the basketball program retained by the athletic department; (3) the value contributed to conference peers via tournament revenue; (4) estimated direct spending by visitors to the county attributable to home basketball games.
Syracuse is one of only two teams in college basketball, along with Kentucky, to draw an average of 20,000 fans per game over each of the last eight seasons.
The Orange begins NCAA Tournament play against Vermont on Friday, March 19 at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
