BALTIMORE – Junior longstick middie Joel White and senior midfielder Max Bartig were named to the ThunderBay/Inside Lacrosse Team of the Week on Tuesday, March 23 for their performances in Syracuse's 10-7 victory against archrival Johns Hopkins on Saturday at Homewood Field.
White matched up against Johns Hopkins' Michael Kimmel, one of the top offensive midfielders in the country, and held him without a point in the win. The performance ended Kimmel's 28-game point streak, which had been the fourth-longest in the nation. In addition, White led Syracuse with a game-best six ground balls and caused a turnover. He also contributed a key transition goal with 2:38 remaining in regulation.
It's the second time this season he's named to the magazine's team of the week, also earning the honor on Feb. 23.
Maryland's Max Schmidt and UMBC's Mike Camardo were the other two defenders recognized by the publication this week.
Bartig scored a personal-best three goals Saturday against the Blue Jays. He scored SU's first goal 2:55 into the contest and tallied consecutive third-quarter goals as part of an overall 5-0 run that gave Syracuse control of the game.
Bartig joined Bucknell's Ryan Klipstein and Princeton's Mike Chanenchuk as midfielders picked to this week's team.
The ThunderBayInside Lacrosse Team of the Week is selected by the magazine's staff and released on Tuesdays during the college season.
Syracuse is in action tonight when it visits McCooey Field in Geneva, N.Y. to face Hobart. Start time is 7 p.m. on Time Warner Sports.
