The Orange offense is continuing to install its new schemes with an offensive line that is improving each day, a veteran running back corps and a group of wide receivers who are making plays.
"Offensively, up front, we're still evaluating it. There's a lot of terminology, a lot of different cadences – things are different," said head coach Doug Marrone. "Ryan (Nassib) had a nice day today. He got some deep balls down the field. Charley (Loeb) completed some passes, some immediate routes, but Ryan really pushed the ball and completed some deep passes."
The quarterbacks will have some familiar targets this season, including junior wide receiver Van Chew, who has made an impression during Spring practice.
"He did a great job this off season and put on about 12 or 15 pounds," Marrone said. "That was one of the things that happened last year – he wasn't physical enough to get off the line of scrimmage. Everyone knows he can run well and he can catch the ball well and now he's becoming a physical player against press coverage. Now, his speed is a legitimate threat because he can get off the ball. If you have great speed and you can't get off the ball, it's very difficult to be productive in any offense. He's really come on strong."
"The backs are playing well, which was expected," Marrone said. "I look at the enthusiasm being there for us. I'm always looking for that perfect execution, but the players are really trying to get a grasp of it and are really playing hard."
Running back Antwon Bailey is part of the veteran group in the backfield, joining Delone Carter and Averin Collier.
"I definitely see the offensive line working hard," Bailey said. "They are really doing well out there."
