2010 Orange Football Schedule
Syracuse will host Colgate on the gridiron on Saturday, September 25 in the Carrier Dome, renewing a historical rivalry and the second-oldest series in school history. The Orange has faced the Raiders 65 times in its 120-year history, which trails only the Penn State series which is 70-games old. The contest against Colgate completes Syracuse's 2010 schedule.
“We are pleased to play Colgate, a program with which we have a long-standing tradition,” said Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone. “In completing the schedule we exhausted all of our options to schedule a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent without adversely affecting our future schedules, but the options did not present that opportunity. Colgate is an in-state school with a solid program that played for the FCS National Championship in 2003.”
The series against Colgate dates back to 1891, the third season for the Orange on the gridiron. The teams last played in 1987, when Syracuse beat Colgate, 52-6, during its undefeated campaign. In 1956, Syracuse legend Jim Brown scored six touchdowns and seven PATs, setting an NCAA record for most points scored in a game (43), in a 61-7 Syracuse victory.
The University will host Family Weekend from September 24 to 26, an annual event that includes many activities surrounding the football game.
The 2010 Orange football season kicks off at Akron on September 4. SU's first home game is September 18 against Maine. Tickets are available online (click here) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX).
