PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior long-stick middie Joel White was tabbed the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the third time, and senior attackman/midfielder Chris Daniello was named to the conference's weekly honor roll on Monday, May 10.
The duo was rewarded for helping the Orange win the inaugural BIG EAST Conference regular-season title with a 15-7 victory at St. John's Saturday.
White collected six ground balls and caused two turnovers against the Red Storm. In addition, he helped hold St. John's leading scorer Tom Manes to just one goal in the contest.
Offensively, White scored two goals for the second straight week, including the team's first man-down goal of the year in the second period.
Daniello tied his career high with four goals and finished with a game-high five points against the Red Storm. He tallied the game's first goal 1:24 into the contest and notched three goals and one assist during an overall 10-2 run that resulted in a 15-4 fourth-quarter lead for the Orange.
It was the fifth hat trick of the year for Daniello and the third time in the last four games he finished with at least five points.
Syracuse was rewarded for a 13-1 regular season with the No. 2 seed in the 2010 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. The Orange will host Army in the tournament's first round on Sunday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
