Former Syracuse University quarterback Greg Paulus participated this past weekend in the New Orleans Saints Rookie Minicamp at the team's practice facility in Metairie, La., which included more than 60 players. The camp consisted of meetings, five practices and strength and conditioning. The group of players included the team's six draft choices, undrafted free agents signed to the club, five members of the team's 2009 practice squad and undrafted rookies and NFL veterans who are here on a tryout basis. Paulus has not signed a contract with the Saints.
"Last weekend I had the opportunity to workout with the New Orleans Saints at their Rookie Minicamp,” Paulus said. “It was a great experience. I will continue to prepare for the next opportunity by following the workout plan that I have been doing since the season ended with the help of Coach Hicks and the Syracuse coaching staff.”
This weekend Paulus will graduate from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications with a Master's degree in television, radio and film.
"I am very excited to receive my Masters degree from the Newhouse School of Communications. Coming back to Syracuse and having the chance to play football and advance my education has been such a special experience. It will be one that I will always remember and cherish. I am very thankful for all those who have helped make this possible and such a memorable experience."
During the 2009 season, Paulus, a team co-captain, set the Syracuse single-season completion percentage record, connecting on 67.7 percent (193-of-285 passes). That figure ranks third on the BIG EAST single-season record list. Against South Florida, he completed 25 of his 46 pass attempts, which is third on Syracuse's single-game completions record list. Paulus passed for 2,024 yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 games. He joined the Syracuse program after a standout four-year basketball career at Duke University, where he was a two-time captain for the Blue Devils. Paulus earned an undergraduate degree in political science with a certificate in markets and managements studies.
