Consensus All-American Wes Johnson was picked fourth overall in the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Johnson's selection was announced by commissioner David Stern in front of a full house at the NBA Draft in New York City. Johnson joins former Syracuse teammate Jonny Flynn with the Timberwolves. Although the duo never played in an SU game together -- Johnson was ineligible as a transfer student during Flynn's final year with the Orange -- they practiced together for a full season and will now join forces in the NBA.
Johnson helped Syracuse to a 30-5 overall record, the NCAA "Sweet 16" and the BIG EAST Conference regular-season championship in 2009-10, his lone season with the Orange. He played two years at Iowa State before transferring to Syracuse and then opted for the NBA Draft after earning consensus All-American honors and BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year recognition. Flynn was the sixth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Syracuse is the only school with a top-10 NBA pick in the last two drafts.
The Timberwolves are scheduled to play a preseason game in the Carrier Dome on Friday, October 15 against the Detriot Pistons. For ticket information, click on:
