Five members of the Syracuse men's basketball team earned spots on the 2010 Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who achieved a 3.0 grade-point average in one semester.
Freshman Griffin Hoffmann (York Prep/New York, N.Y.), junior Wes Johnson (Corsicana/Corsicana, Tex.), senior Arinze Onuaku (Episcopal/Lanham, Md.), sophomore Nick Resavy (West Milford/West Milford, N.J.) and junior Matt Tomaszewski were each honored.
Hoffman, who earned a spot on the team after open tryouts last fall, had a 3.312 grade-point average in the spring. He is majoring in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises.
Johnson, a communications and rhetorical studies major, produced a 3.0 g.p.a. A consensus All-American and the 2009-10 BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year, Johnson entered the NBA Draft and was selected fourth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Onuaku earned a 3.667 g.p.a. in the spring. A sports management major, he finished his SU career as the school leader in field goal percentage. It marked the seventh time he's made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Resavy joined the team last fall after spending a year as a team manager. He had a 3.33 g.p.a. and is a sport management major.
Tomaszewski practiced with the Orange but did not compete after transferring from Tampa. He will be eligible in 2010-11. He earned a 3.75 g.p.a. and is majoring in communications and rhetorical studies.
In addition to the five spots on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in the spring, the men's basketball program placed six following the 2009 fall semester. The 11 total is the most by the team in a single year since the honor roll was first instituted in 1995-96.
