Syracuse Earns BIG EAST Conference Academic Excellence Awards

Syracuse had four teams cited with BIG EAST Conference Academic Excellence Awards. The honor recognizes the program with the highest collective grade-point average in each of the 25 conference sports.

The Orange were winners in football, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball.

Eleven BIG EAST schools had at least one team honored, with Providence finishing with a conference-best five teams recognized. Like Syracuse, DePaul had four teams recognized, while Cincinnati, Louisville, Notre Dame and St. John's had two each. Georgetown, Rutgers, USF and West Virginia all had single teams represented.

The winners were chosen based on the 2009-10 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appears on an institution's squad list as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
