2010 Schedule
With one day remaining on the preseason camp schedule, the Orange is about to focus its attention on preparations for the season opener at Akron on Saturday, September 4 (6:00 p.m., ESPN3). Beginning with the homecoming of running backs Delone Carter and Prince-Tyson Gulley and linebackers Ryan Gillum, Micah Robinson and Lewellyn Coker, in the season-opener in Ohio, a total of 25 student-athletes will have the opportunity to return to their home states to play in front of family and friends during the 2010 season. The Orange will travel across the country this season with trips to Washington, Florida, West Virginia, New Jersey and a pair to Ohio on the schedule.
Of the Ohio Orange, Carter and Gulley will be the closest to home – Gulley attended high school five minutes from the University of Akron campus, while Carter's hometown of Copley is 15 minutes outside Akron. The group will return to Ohio when the Orange visits Cincinnati on October 30.
“Returning home for the first game is really a blessing for me because not many people get to do that in their college career,” Carter said. “I just value the opportunity to go home and perform for my loved ones and I haven't been able to do that since high school. I have a lot of love back home being that I was 'Mr. Ohio' in Akron. It will be fun to see those fans again when I return.”
Twelve student-athletes will make their homecoming when Syracuse opens its BIG EAST conference schedule at South Florida on October 9. The Florida Orange includes seniors Mike Holmes, Nick Provo and Kevyn Scott, junior Dorian Graham, sophomores Phillip Thomas and Ri'Shard Anderson and freshmen Keon Lyn, Brice Hawks, Jeremi Wilkes, Zachary McCarrell, Beckett Wales and Max Beaulieu. Defensive back Wilkes will be closest to home when SU kicks off against the Bulls at Raymond James Stadium, the Tampa native attended high school less than ten miles from the USF campus.
Da'Mon Merkerson, Marquis Spruill, George Mayes, Ross Krautman, Ollie Haney, Jarel Lowery, Zack Chibane and David Stevens will have the opportunity to return home later in the season when Syracuse visits BIG EAST foe Rutgers in its last regular-season road game on November 13. The group of New Jersey natives on the roster hail from an average of 45 minutes away from the Rutgers campus.
SU opens at home against Maine on September 18 at 7:15 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets are available online (click here) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOME-TIX). starting at $100.
