Syracuse Captures Third Tournament Title

BRONX, N.Y. - Syracuse (12-0) swept Rider and Harvard to capture the Rose Hill Classic title, its third tournament championship of the season. The Orange compiled a 4-0 record in tournament play, defeating opponents by a combined total of 12-0. The 12-0 overall record marks the best season start for the Orange in program history.
Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre garnered tournament MVP honors, posting a team-best 42 kills and 24 digs through the four matches. It is the second tournament MVP award for Lefebvre, who also earned the honor in the season-opening Colgate Classic Tournament. Freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe was also named to the all-tournament team, logging 34 kills, a .527 attack percentage and nine total blocks for the Orange through the weekend.
The Orange employed a balanced attack throughout the weekend, with nine different players recording kills on Saturday. Lefebvre led the way with 20 kills, averaging 4.00 per set while McCabe was second with 16 kills. Senior outside hitter Hayley Todd notched 15 kills, 12 digs and a trio of blocks while senior right side Mindy Stanislovaitis had 12 kills and three total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz added nine kills while junior outside hitter Erin Little had eight in her return to action after missing the first 10 games of the season with an ankle injury. Freshman Samantha Clarey added five kills through the two matches while classmate Amanda Kullman posted her first career kill against Rider. Sophomore setter Laura Homann directed the Orange attack, dishing out 59 assists for an 11.80 assists per set average.
Defensively, junior libero Ashley Williams set the standard with 30 assists through the two matches while redshirt freshman Zoe Guzman had 10 and senior Sarah Hayes pitched in five.
The Orange looks to keep the win streak alive when its hosts Niagara on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building.
