SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior middle blocker Hayley Todd recorded 12 kills to lead the Orange to a 3-0 sweep of Niagara (5-7) at home in the Women's Building. This win extends the best season start in Syracuse history to 13-0 while SU has now won its last 24-consecutive sets since Sept. 3. Check out the match and post-match interviews on Orange All Access.
Todd is one of five Orange athletes to register at least three kills through the three set match. Senior outside hitter Mindy Stanislovaitis was second on the squad with eight kills and a team-high hitting percentage of .438. Rounding out the team in kills were freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe with seven and three block assists, junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre with six kills, and sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz with three kills and three block assists.
Defensively, junior Ashley Williams set the tone with 12 digs, followed by Lefebvre with 10 digs. Defensive specialist Zoe Guzman contributed eight digs.
The Orange got off to a slow start in the first set, going neck-to-neck with the Purple Eagles, but came back to win 25-20. After a tight dual for the first set, Syracuse started the second set with a bang taking a 7-1 start. The Orange held this momentum and won the match 3-0.
The squad looks to extend its undefeated streak this Friday, September 17 versus Louisiana-Monroe at 3 p.m. in the Kent State Tournament.
