TAMPA - Syracuse (17-1, 1-1) dropped a tight 3-2 decision to USF (6-7, 2-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Corral. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre led the Orange both offensively and defensively with a double-double.
Lefebvre's 18 kills and 14 digs led the seven student-athletes that contributed to the Orange attack. Senior outside hitter Hayley Todd was second on the team, posting 11 kills and a team-best three blocks while senior right side hitter Mindy Stanislovaitis had nine kills. Junior outside hitter Erin Little added seven kills to the cause while adding seven digs and sophomore middle Samantha Hinz added five kills. Sophomore setter Laura Homann added a double-double, dishing out 43 assists while posting 10 digs.
Defensively, senior libero Sarah Hayes had 12 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Zoe Guzman added 10.
The Bulls took a narrow 25-22 victory in the first set, before the Orange rallied to a 25-17 second-set win. South Florida took the third set, 25-12, before Syracuse evened the match, 2-2, with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. USF came through in the clutch, capturing the fifth and final set, 15-6, to take the match.
Syracuse returns home to host Binghamton on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building.
