Balanced Attack Results in 3-1 Victory

After the dropping the first set, 25-23, Syracuse (18-1) rallied back to win three-straight sets, downing Binghamton (5-8), 3-1, on Wednesday night in the Women's Building. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre led the Orange with her 40th career double-double. View the complete match as well as postmatch interviews on Orange All Access.
Lefebvre set the tone for a well-balanced Orange offense that had four players notching eight or more kills. The Terrebonne, Quebec native had a match-best 17 kills and 18 digs, posting her 600th career kill during the first set. Senior outside hitter Hayley Todd was second on the team, posting 14 kills and a career-best three service aces as the Orange outmatched Binghamton, 11 aces to three. Sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz added 12 kills in the best match of her career where she hit a blistering .706 leading the Orange to its fourth-best team hitting percentage of the year, .398. Senior right side hitter Mindy Stanislovaitis added eight kills while hitting .636 and junior Erin Little rounded out the offense with four kills, nine digs and three service aces. Sophomore setter Laura Homann directed the distributed attack, dishing out 48 assists while adding four total blocks.
Defensively, senior libero Sarah Hayes had 12 digs while redshirt freshman Zoe Guzman had a pair of backrow pickups.
After dropping the first set, the Orange came out strong in the second, jumping out to a 15-7 lead with Todd nailing two straight service aces. SU maintained its lead throughout the entirety of the set, going on to win 25-14, evening the match, 1-1.
The Bearcats battled back in the third set as the action was back-and-forth, but the Orange rallied to come out on top 25-17. SU carried its momentum into the fourth set securing the 3-1 match victory with a 25-11 win.
Syracuse resumes BIG EAST play on Saturday, Sept. 3 when it visits Villanova at 2 p.m.
