
Smith is a Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

Senior linebacker Derrell Smith is one of 47 William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalists the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today. Formerly known as the Draddy Trophy, the Williams V. Campbell Trophy is college football's premier scholar-athlete award.
A 2009 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, Smith is currently tied for 28th nationally and second in the BIG EAST with 9.8 tackles per game. His seven forced fumbles rank third on the SU career record list and he currently has 120 career tackles, including 95 solo stops and 18.5 tackles for a loss of yards.
Smith earned his undergraduate degree in information management and technology in May 2010 and is currently pursuing his Master's degree in advertising from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He is also a candidate for the 2010 Lombardi Award, Bednarik Award, Butkus Award and the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Smith and the Orange open BIG EAST play at South Florida on Saturday, October 9.
