The defending BIG EAST Championship Syracuse softball squad began its 26-day preparation for the 2011 season today. The opened 2011 practice with three hours on the turf in Manley Field House before concluding with an hour in the weight room.
Fifth-year head coach Leigh Ross returns 15 letterwinners from last year's team, including all nine position starters and the top two pitchers.
Practice opened with an hour of hitting stations inside the newly rennovated field house, which includes two full batting cages. The team then transitioned into position-based defensive drills before wrapping up the session with live pitching drills.
Syracuse opens its 2011 season in Decatur, Ga. at the two-day, four-game Georgia State Tournament. The Orange opens tournament action against Tennessee Tech on Saturday, February 12 at 10 a.m.
