SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University men's and women's rowing teams will travel to New Jersey this weekend to compete in the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. Sunday, Oct. 30. The Chase is an invitational head race hosted by the Princeton University crew coaching staff for men's and women's crews (including freshman/novice).
Racing gets underway at 10 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. There are nine events, including men's heavyweight and lightweight eights, women's varsity and open eights, fours and small-boat competitions.
Five Syracuse crews will compete on the women's side with two eights and three fours taking the water. Two eights and four fours are scheduled to enter the men's competition.
The start of the race is the normal finish line at the Kingston end of Lake Carnegie. The finish is just before the Washington Road Bridge, some two and three-quarter miles away. Spectators may watch the racing from the start located just off Route 27 (Nassau Street) at the Kingston end of the lake, the Harrison Street Bridge or the finish at the Washington Road Bridge located near the boathouse.
This is the ninth consecutive year the Orange men's team has taken part in the Chase. Last season, SU's varsity four held off second-place Princeton to win its race, while the Orange's top eight was runner-up to the Tigers its competition.
The Syracuse women are making their third straight appearance at the event. The team's best showing last year was a 10th-place finish by the varsity four.
