#12 Orange Competes at Doc Hosea Invitational

The No. 12 ranked Syracuse women's rowing team got its spring season underway on Sunday at the Doc Hosea Invitational in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The Orange were joined by joined by No. 3 Yale, No. 8 Rutgers, No. 9 Virginia, No. 16 Penn and Northeastern at the event.
"Good start to the season, there were some elements that I thought we did really well and of course still some things to continue improving upon," Head Coach Luke McGee said. "All in all, a good first outing for us given we've only been on the water for a few weeks now. Racing great competitors today was a great test and a reminder of how sharp we need to be on the water to compete. We have another great test coming up next week in Saratoga Springs and looking forward to continuing the spring season."
The Orange got the morning session started with the V4 racing to a second-place finish with a time of 7:20.4, behind Virginia's time of 7:17.9 and ahead of Northeastern's 8:02.9. The 2V8 crew took first with a time of 6:36.1, finishing ahead of Virginia's 6:38.6 and Northeastern's 6:58.9. The V8 came in second with a time of 6:24.6 behind Virginia's 6:21.1 and ahead of Northeastern's 6:50.0. The 2V4 raced to a second-place finish at 7:22.4, behind Virginia's 7:18.7 and ahead of Northeastern's 8:08.0. The 3V8 was next up with a time of 6:48.8, finishing behind Virginia (6:46.4) and ahead of Northeastern (7:19.0). The 3V4 wrapped up the morning session with a fourth place finish time of 8:21.1. Rutgers's A and B crew took first and second while Yale took third.
The V4 kicked off the afternoon racing with a time of 7:29.6 behind Rutgers (7:21.9). The 2V8 was next up with a time of 6:29.5, ahead of Rutgers' 6:35.0. The V8 raced to a 6:20.0 finish, over four seconds ahead of Rutgers (6:24.5). The 2V4 was strong, racing to a 7:24.7 time in front of Rutgers (7:36.4). Syracuse wrapped up the day with the 3V8 finishing with a time of 6:47.6 behind Rutgers and the 3V4 at 8:25.3 behind a pair of Rutgers boats.
The Orange keep their spring rolling along when they head to the Cayuga Cup next weekend where they'll face off with Cornell and Yale. Racing is set to take place in Saratoga Springs, New York.
