A Skid, A Slide, A Rough Patch

There are many terms in sports lexicon that describe what the Syracuse University Football Program is going through right now. What we don't know is if this is a skid, a slide, a rough patch or a full-fledged choke, implosion, or collapse.
Since the summer, the goal has been a bowl game. As a program that is coming back from one of its darkest periods, it's important to always be moving forward. Ending our losing streaks against various conference teams was a step. Last year's Pinstripe Bowl win was a leap. To keep that momentum going, a bowl game is imperative. And we are one win away with two of the top teams in the league left on the schedule. The players, the coaches, the fans know what needs to be done. Unfortunately, knowing and doing can often be worlds apart.
Not much can be said of the last three losses. The team hasn't played well, and I think that's the most disappointing part for the players and coaches, as well as those who cheer them on. They know they are capable of more. And so do we.
All athletes know that dwelling on the past, whether it's great plays or bad ones, does nothing for the here and now or the future. All that matters is the next play, the next opponent. All that matters is how this team responds to adversity. It can be the difference between a rough patch and a collapse.
